Cyclone Freddy Emergency Appeal
Houses, roads and people
washed away
As it batters Malawi, leaving a trail of death and destruction in its wake, Cyclone Freddy is breaking records for its duration and strength. Lazarus Chakwera, President of Malawi has issued a state of emergency in the Southern region of Malawi, including Zomba district, the home of Mbedza.
Bursting river banks wash away houses and rivers, whilst houses are collapsing from the onslaught of wind and rain. Malawi, a country that contributes very little to climate change, whilst so ill-equipped to deal with its effects, continues to be disproportionately impacted by extreme weather events that it did not cause.
We are asking for your help to support those in our communities affected by this disaster.
