Encouragement and motivation - a report from Prisca Ibbu

The Mbedza Orphan Education Programme recently organized a motivational talk for secondary students from Pirimiti Community Day Secondary School, Songani Community Day Secondary School, and Malindi Secondary School. Held on 23rd November 2024, the event brought together our students from these schools for a day of inspiration and guidance.

The motivational talk focused on several critical topics, including goal setting and vision building, self-confidence, self-awareness, self-esteem, time management and study skills. These topics were carefully selected to address the specific challenges and concerns faced by orphaned students. By emphasizing the importance of goal setting and vision building, the programme aimed to inspire students to think critically about their future aspirations and develop a clear plan to achieve them.

The discussion on self-confidence, self-awareness, and self-esteem was equally important, as it helped students recognize their strengths and weaknesses, and develop a positive self-image. This is particularly crucial for orphaned students, who may face unique emotional and psychological challenges. By fostering a sense of self-confidence and self-worth, the programme aimed to empower students to overcome these challenges and reach their full potential.

We took advantage of this gathering and the students received a bag of maize, a timely intervention in the hungry season.

The talk on time management and study skills was also vital, as it equipped students with practical tools and strategies to succeed academically. By learning effective time management techniques and study habits, students can better navigate the demands of secondary school and achieve academic excellence.

We were blessed with four speakers, James Mataka, Prisca Ibbu, Ethel Phuliwa and Chisomo Chiutsi. Among them, two speakers had faced similar challenges as the students. Their testimonies served as a powerful reminder that success is possible, regardless of one's background or circumstances. Their stories inspired and motivated the students, providing them with a sense of hope and optimism for their own futures.

The Mbedza Hope Ambassadors came with an amazing play, the play was fun as well as educational. It uncovered the consequences of students having sexual relationships.

The motivational talk event was a resounding success, students were able to ask questions privately to our speakers, this also helped in providing students with valuable insights, practical skills, and inspiration. By investing in the emotional, psychological, and academic well-being of orphaned students, through this project, we're helping to shape a brighter, more promising future for these young individuals.
