The Hope Ambassadors programme continues to grow into a vibrant hub for nurturing talent, creating career opportunities, and building brighter futures for young people in Songani. Through mentorship, skills development, and educational support, the programme is empowering young people to discover their potential and pursue their dreams.
One inspiring success story is that of Ruth Zebron Kankhunda, a long-time member of Hope Ambassadors whose journey demonstrates the transformative impact of the programme. Ruth joined Hope Ambassadors in 2018 when she was just 15 years old. Since then, she has grown into a confident young woman and a promising upcoming artist in Malawi’s music industry. Recently she has produced so many songs that are being listened to by Malawians.
As a volunteer, Ruth actively participated in various programme activities. One of her memorable contributions was reciting a poem titled There is a Reason, which touched the hearts of many people. She also took part in performing Hope Yathu, a song that continues to be enjoyed by many today. Beyond creative activities, Mbedza supported her educational journey and provided her with the opportunity to attend a technical college, where she is currently studying plumbing.
Reflecting on her experience, Ruth explains that Hope Ambassadors played a significant role in her personal growth.
“I grew passionate about the programme because it helped me develop in many ways. Through Mbedza, I learned valuable life skills such as poetry recitation, drama, singing, leadership, teamwork, and public speaking. These experiences shaped me into a confident young woman who can stand before people and express herself without fear.”
Looking ahead, Ruth hopes to successfully complete her studies and become a qualified plumbing professional while continuing to develop her music career. She dreams of releasing songs that inspire and educate others and using both her professional skills and artistic talents to positively impact her community.
“I am truly grateful to the Mbedza team for helping shape the woman I am today and for giving me hope, direction, and a brighter future,” she says.
The programme’s impact extends beyond music and education. Another Hope Ambassador credits the mentorship programme for helping develop talents in photography and videography. Through continuous guidance, encouragement, and mentorship, the young creative people in Songani discover their passion for media, theatre and visual storytelling. The programme provided opportunities to build confidence, strengthen technical skills, and understand how creative talents can be used to inspire and positively influence others.
